DECEMBER HOLIDAY PROGRAMMES
2-DAY WORKSHOPS
(Centre-based)

I’m… Dreaming…. Of a Write Christmas!

Here at Writers’ Guild, we believe in the essence of a good education. This is why in our 2021 December Holiday Programme 2-Day workshop, to celebrate the season of giving, the overarching theme of our workshop is the precious value of selflessness.

Not only will your child explore different crucial techniques that they can apply seamlessly when writing their composition; they will also master the importance of character-building. We hope to inspire our students with the mastery of techniques as well as the values of kindness and compassion, which are often explored in school assessments. Give your child the gifts of good values and writing with confidence! The classes will be led by our passionate teachers and presented in stunning visual technicolour.

P1/2 Creative Writing

🎄You better watch out!🎅

No need to be shy!

You better sign up, I’m telling you why!

❄ Writers’ Guild is the best in town! ❄

Through sheer entertainment and positive reinforcement, we look forward to advancing your child’s vocabulary and exposing them to important keywords that will help them craft their story!

Eliminate the risk of misconceptions or wrong ideas when it comes to unpacking keywords.

In addition to vocabulary expansion, we will also help your child to use information from the text to infer the right answers in the cloze passage, thereby improving their thinking skills.

Your child will be equipped with the skills of how to express the common emotion of happiness, which is commonly only briefly conveyed in essays. By providing them with the tools of expression, they are surely bound to impress their teachers in school with new hearty expressions of joy!

Magical Mnemonics are taught in the workshop to help students encode new visual information in long-term memory, ensuring the new vocabulary they have learnt will be ingrained in their minds.

Lastly, scaffolded by our friendly teachers, your child will put everything they have learnt into writing by crafting a 4-paragraph essay.

The lessons at Writers’ Guild are packed with fun and laughter! Get a sneak peek of all the magic by joining one of our holiday workshops! Give it a try! You will not regret it!

Get into the holiday groove with our bedazzling series of holiday programmes!

Never be fooled by innocent-looking topics! For the Primary 3/4 programme, we take pride in ensuring that your child does not fall into the trap of writing a story that is missing out crucial aspects. Our teachers are equipped to ensure that we correct any misconceptions of keywords.

The holiday programme also delves into evoking emotions within the essay. Do you know that expressing emotions sufficiently within your story can help both Language and Content marks? We will go through the emotions of ‘shock’ and ‘sympathy’ - versatile emotions that can be applied to many stories.

We will also expose your child to a cloze passage and model essay. Not only will they experience vocabulary expansion, it also helps to activate free recall, reinforce their grammatical knowledge and gain exposure to key techniques in a good composition.

Subject-specific vocabulary will be taught to create immersive scene-setting within the story. Students will be taught how to impress their teachers through vivid descriptions of their surroundings.

Characterisation is also a key technique taught at Writers’ Guild! Gain understanding of this crucial technique as it will help the reader to create an emotional connection with the story and drive the plot forward.

As your child masters the techniques, they will also start to craft their unique, creative masterpiece. At Writers’ Guild, we champion creativity and originality. No two pieces will ever be the same. Detailed marking feedback will accompany their work to establish affirmation and recommendations!

Wait no more! Allow your child to bring out the best writer in them at our holiday workshop!

P5 Creative Writing

In the spirit of the season of giving, the theme of selflessness is explored throughout the workshop! Putting others before yourself is not an easy thing to do. However, there are many topics in Semestral Assessments and Continual Assessments that explore this concept. During these two days, your child will understand what it really means to be selfless and not fall into the trap of writing superficial essays that do not generate profound content.

They will explore a crucial emotion - gratitude - that is incredibly versatile but heavily underutilised in compositions.

Your child will be exposed to a model essay and together with their teacher, they will unpack many useful key techniques that are ingredients for a successful essay.

In addition, the concept of Temptation Versus Conscience will also add an insightful layer of meaning within their essay, bringing out the very meaning of selflessness.

Show Not Tell is a common technique taught in schools. However, using Writers’ Guild’s ‘4S’ technique of “Simile, Setting, Showing Action, Super-Swap Words, Strength” will help them to easily apply the concept and propel their writing skills to new levels.

Last, but not least, after mastering these critical techniques, they will generate their very own plotline and create their own unique piece of work. Detailed marking feedback will be provided so that your child will be able to understand which aspects have room for improvement. Explicitly bridging those gaps will certainly go a long way in helping your child attain the grade that he or she deserves.
