Woo hoo!“This is one of the questions that came out today!”P6 Caven excitedly sent us the 𝐬𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐱𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐩𝐚𝐠𝐞 from 𝐖𝐆’𝐬 𝐏𝐒𝐋𝐄 𝐎𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐏𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐚𝐠𝐞. 🎉👯♀️🎯
He was not the only one. In fact, a tsunami of happy messages flooded our phones about the spotted question.
💬 “He was grinning from ear to ear when I saw him!” – Darius’ mum
💬 “He seemed happy and said he should be able to score!” – Kaevan’s mum
At Writers’ Guild, we want to ensure all our students walk into their PSLE Oral examination feeling unshakably confident. That is why our 𝐞𝐱𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐯𝐞 2025 Oral Package, provided 𝐅𝐑𝐄𝐄 to all P6 WG English students, spans over 𝟏𝟖𝟎 pages of targeted tips, smart strategies, practice stimuli with authentic scenarios and model responses, reflecting the most frequently tested topics in schools.
Moments like this reminds us why we pour our hearts into our resources.
During the Stimulus-based Conversation, students understand that they need to link their responses to personal experiences or examples to support their opinions. That is a good start. However, the 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐦𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐠𝐨 𝐛𝐞𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬, 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐡𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐥𝐲 𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐞. When students weave emotions into their stimulus conversations, their delivery becomes more 𝐩𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐞 💖and their descriptions 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐯𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐝, 𝐞𝐧𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐝 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐩𝐡𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐬 that examiners remember. When feelings are seamlessly interlaced with reasons, the responses both 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐮𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐱𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐫. At Writers’ Guild, we design our strategies to be 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐥𝐲 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞. After all, even the most brilliant technique is worthless 😭 if it vanishes from a student’s mind during the examination.
To help pupils retain 🧠 expressive, emotion-rich phrases, we introduced the 𝐄𝐥𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐄𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 in our 𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐞𝐝 𝐎𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐮𝐦. This approach uses image association to link each emotion with one of the elements such as air, water, earth and fire. ☁️💧🌎🔥
Take the 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓 𝐏𝐒𝐋𝐄 𝐎𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝟐 stimulus for example:
📷 A bustling hawker centre with queues at each stall. Some patrons are eating while others are seated, eyes glued to their phones. Some of the prompts include:
* Why do you think people eat in hawker centres?
* Do you prefer eating at a hawker centre or at home?
* Do you think children should learn how to cook?
☁️ 𝑨𝒊𝒓 is linked to 𝒉𝒂𝒑𝒑𝒊𝒏𝒆𝒔𝒔.😁 Just thinking of “air” can 𝐬𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐤 𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐡 𝐩𝐡𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐬 like:
• “Sinking my teeth into a juicy piece of chicken and fragrant rice makes me feel like 𝐈 𝐚𝐦 𝐢𝐧 𝐬𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐡 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐧.” ☁️
• “𝐌𝐲 𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐟𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐛𝐢𝐫𝐝𝐬 𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐚𝐰𝐧 whenever my mum announces we will be cooking together.” 🪽
🔎”I searched through Popular, but there is no oral book for the new format. I wish there were 𝐦𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐥 𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐬 that I can revise just before exams.”😭
Change can feel overwhelming, especially when there is no clear roadmap. However, at Writers' Guild, we understand. We listen. We act. 🦸♀️🦸♂️ The moment the new format was announced, our English Specialists leapt into action like superheroes on a mission. We did not just settle for 𝐬𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐭𝐰𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐬 to the worksheets. We 𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐞𝐝 our oral curriculum with 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐞𝐬 this new format demands because we know that what seems like an innate gift of the gab can actually be taught and mastered.
💡 Our Oral Programme arms students with 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐞𝐬 such as 𝐑𝐎𝐅𝐋, 𝐆𝐈𝐅, 𝐄𝐥𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐄𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 to:
• Craft well-rounded, thoughtful responses
• Link their answers meaningfully to the image
• Weave in personal experiences and deeper insights seamlessly

💕“Firstly, WG has taught me many different Oral strategies like ROFL and WOWFATB, which has helped me answer the oral questions more clearly and I feel more confident when answering the questions. Secondly, they also have given us many different oral practices during our classes, with either our classmates or teachers, to help us gain more confidence and be prepared when we face our PSLE Oral examiners on the actual day of the Oral exam."
